First Impression Friday | The Pact

First Impression Friday is hosted by J.W. Martin @ Storeys of Stories. I found out about it from Kristen @ Kristen Kraves Books.

What is it? First Impression Friday is a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther. Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end. Did you think you’d love and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right? I think what will really make this meme a lot of fun, is linking back to it from your review to say, “Look at how wrong I was!” OR “See? I knew it all along!”

This week I started reading The Pact by Jodi Picoult. It has been on my To Be Read list for a long time. Jodi Picoult is one of my favourite authors, but there are still many titles of hers that I have not read. Another bookstagrammer decided to do this book title as a buddy read in October, so I thought I’d join in.

I am only about 40 pages in – I haven’t had a lot of focused time to read this week. Plus, in my copy the print is very tiny so I am having some trouble with that. But I will persevere!

The Pact is the story of two families who are neighbours and best friends. One night both families receive a call in the middle of the night from the hospital – there has been an accident. One teenager is dead. One is alive. It comes to light that these teenagers, Chris & Emily, had a suicide pact. The story seems to be about how this event unfolds, where the parents may have went wrong, and how this tragedy has come to be.

I hope that this weekend I’ll be able to have some dedicated time for reading. I think once I get more into it and have more time to read, I’ll be hooked. I’m certainly looking forward to delving further into this one! Some of my fellow Jodi Picoult fans have rated it highly and I think I will feel the same by the end. I am hoping it will be a 4-5 star read!

Have you read The Pact? Loved it or hated it? Reach out and share your thoughts! Happy Friday!
